Surf Totems at 2 Mile Surf Shop

A while back chatting with my friend Molly and Drew, the owner of 2 Mile Surf shop in Bolinas and Sonoma Coast Surf shop in Petaluma, the whole totem idea manifested.  Molly had been really stoked on my pacific northwest inspired art on my skateplanes, she started encouraging me to do some totems, and then Drew and I discussed it, eventually...after quite a bit of hemming and hawing, this thing got started and finished in about a week or so.
So here are some photos to check out the process.

The two totems stand tall, pray for surf.

Keep your eye's open for more surf totems coming soon...

Skateplanes to San Diego and Japan with Waves Forever

These hot little babies are off to Yuichi at Waves Forever, you can read about it on his blog...if you read Japanese.
A good friend of mine, Molly over at Deeper Visions, and I were talking and she happened to mention some possible opportunities to sell my skateplanes in other stores. She was kind of to get a dialogue going between a friend of hers, Yuichi at the online surf store, Waves Forever.

Now skateplanes can be ordered on my website and at Yuichi's at Waves Forever, based out of San Diego. His online shop caters largely to shipping surf goods to Japan. Check him out, he's got a sweet blog and store, with cool merch!

Xtracycle Customs...

I met Cemil Hope a while back while I was working in Petaluma. We hit it off pretty quick, talking about building stuff and the general wackiness that creative types spout. Not really sure how everything happened, but we were checking out some of the wood surfboards by Danny Hess, and looked at some of my artwork, and some of Cemil's handiwork, carpentry and bikes, and things started rolling from there. I had coffee with Cemil and his wife Jen shortly after, and it seems like every time we get together, ideas just foment like the frothy espresso drinks that emanate from the sweet little coffee house near our mutual works, ACRE coffee.

So Cemil has been heading up the Customs department of Xtracycle, and man, he's been coming up with some pretty amazing stuff. I can't talk about too much of it, don't want to let the cat out of the bag, but I would keep my eyes on him. Anyway, when I found out he was working with Xtracycle I immediately thought about a bunch of my homies that rocked those bikes all the way from Alaska to Chile, check out their journey here at Riding the Spine. Cemil makes the sweet running boards, snapdecks and footsies for Xtracycle. We started spitballing ideas about art on these sweet little customizable components...and things have been stirring.

You can check out Cemil's work on the Xtracycle site and also keep your eyes peeled at the Sea Otter Classic where two of the prototype custom bikes built by Cemil will be sporting some sweet wooden accessories and artwork brought to you by yours truly.

HOAX and Confusion

If you haven't heard of either HOAX or Confusion, then let me tell you, you're missing out.
HOAX has some sick skaters and they're down with DIY, shredding it up and generally being awesome. Check them out HERE.
Confusion is a sweet ass mag/zine run by J-Hay. Full of shit getting gnarly, and keeping it dirty and real. Always stoked to see this in my mailbox, Confusion.

But more to the point, Jon Hay hooked it and threw a graphic I made for him on some HOAX shirts, printed out of BroPrints in Santa Cruz.

Super pumped when I got this in the mail today!

Skate zines, stickers and a Sharkalope Shirt, what more do you need!

Betsy's Installation

A good friend of mine commissioned me a month or so ago to do a tryptic for her. She had some ideas about the ocean, city life and Yosemite. I took it from there and had a great old time making a big ol' mixed media hoopla for her!
I got to use a plethora of elements to create this piece, and even gave it a little functionality to boot.

This is the piece, finally hung in the hallway above their stairwell. Final piece ended being around 3' x 5' 6" and weighing in at a healthy, rough estimate, 30-40 lbs. yikes!

Totally functional handplane with a beach scene from Bodega Bay. What beach is this?

Inner to outer sunset, mixed media painting/drawing...

Some details of the Halfdome/ Yosemite pyrographic piece.

Betsy and I chilling with piece!

...movements...

the past few weeks i've spent stuttering, stumbling, falling, covering myself in paint, sawdust, sweat and blood...it's all been so hectic but yet still so damn conventional. striving to create things that are both beaut
iful and informing, and inquisitive...

lot's of works on paper, paintings, intaglio, and straight up tracing my thoughts out on the floor in dust.
here are some images of what's happening, and hopefully some of the things that will be shown somewhere public soon, somewhere they can be suspended, to be occasionally glanced at while we all chatter and bamboozle and sip cocktails like anteaters...

similar to the previous work on paper...Seal in the Jaws...

a submission for the logo for SEA: Space for Emerging Artists

a little piece, oil and acrylic on canvas, Sharky in Bobo for my friend April.

going of my last work on paper, a giant oil and acrylic sharkalope, on canvas, 3' x 4'...in progress

more coming soon...

New Prints

I've been working on a lot of different themes recently. Surf, skate, animals, myth, etc...and some of the work has been created on wood with pyrography, some etches, some ink and watercolor, drawings, blah blah blah. But all in all they have been fun and are turning out pretty cool. Here are some of the beginning prints of the Skate Grail series. Prints are now available.
